Construction on MOL's Jacksonville CT on schedule
MOL president Akimitsu Ashida recently met top officials from Jacksonville, Florida and the Jacksonville Port Authority and announced steady progress on the city's new 160-acre container terminal.

On hand for the meeting were Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton and port authority executive director Rick Ferrin, as well as Mr Ashida and his executive vice president at MOL, Masakazu Yakushiji.

Jacksonville spokesmen reported that construction was going well and that cargo owners and logistics companies were already moving into the surrounding area. MOL has made the new terminal its hub on the North America east coast, according to a statement from the Japanese shipping line.

Construction of the new Dames Point terminal is to be completed late next year, and operation will start in early 2009. It will have a quay length of 730 metres and be equipped with six gantry cranes.

The new terminal is closely linked to railways and highways and can accommodate two large containerships at berth at the same time. It will be operated by MOL's unit, TraPac, which has extensive experience and know-how in container terminal operation on the North American west coast
